Abigail's Law Compliance
OcLUM builds Abigail's Law compliance packages for full-size buses and smaller vehicle platforms alike, centered on required front and rear coverage, compliance display operation, optional integrated recording, and layouts that fit the vehicle. Recording-enabled systems can support additional camera views, microphone audio, and OcLUM Studio review.

Compliance Platform
New Jersey's Abigail's Law compliance requirements focus on front and rear vehicle areas and driver notification through a clear alert or display. OcLUM packages the compliance cameras, display hardware, optional DVR recording, and installation support into one practical vehicle system.
Compliance coverage
Camera layouts are planned for required front and rear coverage. Additional cameras can be recorded when optional recording is enabled, while the driver display remains focused on the appropriate compliance view.
Driver awareness
The monitor relays the appropriate compliance camera view to the driver during loading, unloading, and reversing. The display is configured around when the required view needs to be available, keeping the compliance function clear without overcomplicating the vehicle setup.
Recorded events
Optional recording can capture up to four camera views in the standard configuration, including internal and external add-on camera options for review, service support, incident follow-up, and fleet documentation.
Camera expansion
The front compliance camera can also provide a dash cam-like view for recording when recording is enabled. Additional internal and external cameras can be added for recording or broader fleet documentation.
Regulatory Reference
Abigail's Law is codified at N.J.S.A. 39:3B-26. The active New Jersey Administrative Code section is N.J.A.C. 6A:27-7.13, School bus sensor system.
The compliance section describes technology capable of addressing required front and rear vehicle areas, applies to school buses manufactured after April 16, 2018, and allows driver notification through a distinctive audible/visual alert or a video monitor relaying the required area.
Place cameras for required front and rear vehicle coverage.
Relay the appropriate video view to the driver through the compliance monitor, consistent with the notification requirement.
Add recording to the system for review, service, incident documentation, or expanded 8-channel packages.
